Tivat remained for centuries part of Venetian Republic (1420-1797). In 1899, a dockyard was developed by the Austrians and it transformed the little harbor into an industrial city. It became the main dockyard of the Yugoslav navy after second world war. The site was transformed into a Marina in 2000 and therefore named Porto Monténégro.
